Air Fryer BBQ Turkey Wings

PREPARATION: 10 minutesbr> COOKING: 20 minutes
TOTAL: 30 minutes
PORTION(S): 4-6 servings

INGREDIENTS

PREPARATION (Roll mouse over icons below to see enlarged images)

  1. Set the air fryer to 375 °F (190 °C).
  2. In a bowl, mix all spices until homogenous composition. Set aside.
  3. Cut each wing in three parts: drumette, wingette, and wing tip (see notes below for details).
  4. Pat the wing parts dry and rub all sides with oil. Then sprinkle the spices throughout and rub them into all sides. Ensure the spices completely cover all sides of the wings. Add more spices if necessary.
  5. Place the wings in the air fryer basket. Do not stack. Cook in batches if necessary. Air fry for 20 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 °F (74 °C). Use a meat thermometer. Optionally, at the end, continue air frying until the wings reach your desired level of crisp.
  6. You can serve these BBQ turkey wings among others with buttered rice (see recipe), pilaf rice (see recipe), mashed potatoes or garlic potatoes (my favorites).
NOTES:
Anatomy of the whole turkey wing:
  1. The drumette looks like a drumstick and usually has more (juicy) meat.
  2. The wingette, also called the flat, is the middle section that is made of two horizontal middle bones, and is crisper once cooked.
  3. The wing tip is mostly made of small bones and has no noticeable flavour. Usually, they can be used to make homemade broth or add flavor to soups.
Separate drumette from the wingette by cutting them at the elbow joints to separate. Cut off the wing tip at the joint.
